Sofea refused to go to school and gave me 1001 reasons to keep her at home.

– i am too tired to carry my jacket to school.

– i am too tired to carry my snackbox.

and the most ridiculous..

– i am too tired to carry myself to school.

sigh.. Apparently someone can stay at home today… she got cough and she is definetely happy about that :p

Maryam told me that she want to buy a sticker book that she saw at the book store the other day and I asked how much money she had. She brought out her purse and started counting her money.

– I have 14 pcs of 1 SAR and 3 pcs of 5SAR. So I got 29 SAR ! How much is that book mummy ?

– It is about 20SAR.

– So I have enough money to get that book and  I think that the cashier will appreciate me cos they will get extra money from me.

Yeah, that’s so sweet Maryam šŸ˜‰

my fav kind of lunch

chickpeas are one of my favourite, besides nuts and beans. yes i love them, and that’s the reason why i loveeee hummus and falafel. Since I am in the Kingdom, i can easily find hummus in the store where there is one large section that sells all kids of cheese, fresh baked, hummus, olives and salad.

So here are my favourite lunch, homemade falafel dip with hummus and arabic bread is a must. Falafel is easy to make, you just need to soak the chickpeas overnight and pour them together with chopped onion, garlics, parsley, cumin, salt, flour, coriander and pepper in the food processor, process until desired mixture. roll them into balls and deep fry with medium heat.

I’ll definitely try to make hummus one day for sure. šŸ™‚

Yummy fruit saladĀ

Last weekend, Aisyah decided to make a healthy dessert for everybody. It was her recipe, the yummy fruit salad. She thought it would be more nicer to serve them in muffin cups, and yes everybody loved it ! I was helping her cutting the fruits of her choice – strawberry, orange, apple, banana and grapes. Ā She put them in the muffin cups and drizzled with chocolate and maple syrup on top.

So here the photo of my little chef with her yummy fruit salad. Bon appetit!

Manners

When do you start teaching your kids about manners and politeness ?

We have been consistently teaching and reminding our kids about manner since they were young. We want our kids to be polite. Don’t we all ? Cos I believe that how our child act is a reflection on usĀ as a parent.

There are four magic words that we always remind them – always say please, thank you, excuse me and sorry when necessary. Don’t interrupt when other are talking, close your mouth when chewing your food, cover your mouth and turn away when you sneezing, don’t whizzpopper ( read : fart. lol too much roald dahl influences in our house!) in the public, seat properly, don’t make noise in public and the list go on and on.

We also remind our kids about table manner that what our beloved prophet (saw) do / sunnah for eg: to say Bismillah,to begin eating from the what is directly in front of you rather than ‘hunt’ the food that far away from your plate, and showing some respect by let the adult to eatĀ first.

There are some books we read that teach kids about manner in moreĀ fun way. One of our favourite is the collection of poems from Gallet Burgess about table manners -More Goops and How Not to Be Them.

It is not too late to teach manner to our kids. We just need to be patient, be a good role model and lot of practice. Parenting is not easy and really, patience is the most important key.

Funny Jokes

My kids are really into silly jokes and riddles, and keep asking Alexa, our virtual assistant forĀ the new jokes. Some of their favourite jokes that will beĀ cracking them upĀ at any time

Knock knock. Who’s there ? Interrupting cow. Interrrr…..Ā ?Ā MOOO MOOO !!

Why did the chicken cross the road ?

Why can’t give Elsa a balloon ? Cos she will LET IT GOOOO….

When kids getting smarter than you

Today we were doing some worksheets when Sofea asked me to write letter I for her tracing. When I’ve done and passed the paper to her, she complained that letter look like number 1, and corrected me the right way to write letter I is by having the two flat lines. Yeah right little lady :}

On the other hand, Maryam was reading some science books today, that she keep asking questions that I can’t answer, and thinking that she are getting smarter than me.. oh no !

The Gruffalo’s

Ā I’ve just finished reading both of The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child to my girls, Ā both areĀ such a fantastic story with wonderful illustrations. The Gruffalo is about a smart little mouse that is going to big dark woods and met series of animals that wanted to eat him, and how the little mouse try to frighten them by telling them he’s on his way to meet a Gruffalo, that has been described as terrible monster that scared all the animals away.

The Gruffalo’s Child is a great follow up to the book The Gruffalo. It is about the Gruffalo’s daughter goes in search of the big bad mouse, sneaking out the cave while her dad is sleeping. She goes on a trail into the wood to find the ‘big bad mouse’ and encountered many animals along the way.

My kids enjoyed listening to the story and love the books so much, I would say it is a perfect book to read aloud to the children age 3-5 years old.

Would definitely buy another book from Julia Donaldson !

Fantastic Mr Fox

Reading aloud to my kids is one of my favourite things to do šŸ™‚ I enjoy reading picture books when they were small, and now I’ve just getting started reading aloud children’s chapter book for them.

We are currently reading Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl few days ago, and I can say it is one of the kids favourite book at the moment. They love the fantastic character of Mr Fox, and the three crooks, Bean, Boggis and Bunce, and also the easy to follow plot lines. This book is about Mr Fox who steals food from the three mean farmers, for his family, and the farmers plan to catch him and how Mr Fox try to escape and save his family.

The kids had a pretend play today, Maryam was acting like Bean cos she’s the tallest among them, Aisyah is Boggis cos she loves chicken and Sofea is Bunce cos she’s the shortest. Hehe
